Splitting an inventory for a two-stage move

Sending some belongings now and the rest later requires separate scope and tracking. Simply changing colours on one list may not be enough.

Splitting an inventory for a two-stage move

Before you start

Give each stage a date and version number. Check that matching furniture components are not left for the later shipment.

Practical steps

  • Add a stage code to item and carton numbers.
  • Mark temporarily retained belongings as outside the current load.
  • Confirm access, delivery and service scope for each shipment separately.

Checks on arrival

Update the remaining inventory after the first delivery. Build the second plan from what is actually left rather than copying the earlier list.

What to include in your quote request

Prepare your enquiry around the actual inventory and timing needs rather than household size alone. Separate personal luggage from the shipment. Match access arrangements, priority items and contact people to one written moving plan.
