Road or Sea Freight? Choosing the Right Move to Europe
Deciding between road and sea freight for your move from Turkey to Europe? We break down speed, cost, and volume so you can make the right call.

When moving from Turkey to Europe, one of the first — and most consequential — decisions you'll make is whether to go with road freight or sea freight. The choice affects how long you wait to sleep in your own bed, how much you pay, and how well the method fits the size of your home. At Avrupaya, we offer both options with full door-to-door delivery, 100% insurance coverage, and end-to-end customs handling.
Road freight: speed and direct access
Road transport is the fastest option for most European destinations. Delivery to Germany takes 5–8 days, to France or Italy around 6–9 days, and to Norway up to 9–14 days. With a full truckload (FTL), your belongings go directly without stops. With a part load (LTL), you share truck space with other shipments and pay only for what you use — a practical option when you're moving a smaller home on a tighter budget.
Sea freight: volume and value
Sea freight takes 12–22 days but becomes the more economical choice once your shipment reaches a meaningful volume. A 20-foot container holds roughly 33 m³ — enough for a 2–3 room apartment. A 40-foot container provides around 67 m³ for larger homes. All port logistics and customs clearance are handled by our team from start to finish.
How to decide which is right for you
- Need a quick move? → Road freight (5–14 days depending on country)
- Moving a large house? → Sea freight with a 20ft or 40ft container
- Working with a tight budget? → LTL road or LCL sea (shared, pay for space used)
- Mid-size home, medium distance? → FTL road balances speed and cost well
- Either way: door-to-door, fully insured, all customs included

Frequently asked questions
How long does road freight from Turkey to Germany take?
Typically 5–8 days for a full truckload (FTL) direct service. Part loads (LTL) may add a few days due to consolidation stops.
Is sea freight suitable for smaller apartments?
Yes — LCL (less than container load) lets you pay only for the cubic metres you use, making sea freight viable even for studio or one-bedroom moves.
Who handles customs on both road and sea shipments?
Avrupaya manages all customs documentation and clearance on both the Turkish and European sides, regardless of which transport mode you choose.
Can I mix road and sea for different parts of my shipment?
In most cases we recommend keeping your shipment together for simplicity and insurance purposes, but our team can discuss multimodal options if your situation calls for it.
Is my shipment insured for the full journey?
Yes. All shipments are covered by 100% insurance from the moment they leave your door until they arrive at your new home.
