Measuring the usable opening of an entrance door
Door-frame dimensions are not the same as usable clearance. Record the space actually available while an item passes through.
Before you start
Check the opening direction and anything preventing the door from opening fully. Include narrower corridors beyond the entrance in the measurement plan.
Practical steps
- Record usable width and height together.
- Photograph the threshold, handle and nearby corridor turns.
- Send the information to the moving team for comparison with packaged furniture dimensions.
Checks on arrival
Keep the measured route clear on delivery day. If door removal is needed, agree responsibility and scope beforehand instead of treating it as a last-minute solution.
