Planning router equipment and internet at the new home

Moving a router does not mean internet service is ready at the destination. Track equipment preparation separately from service activation.

Planning router equipment and internet at the new home

Before you start

Check ownership and any requirement to return provider equipment. Keep account information secure and never put passwords on boxes.

Practical steps

  • Label the power supply for its particular device model.
  • Count cables and additional network units separately.
  • Confirm the connection type and activation schedule at the new address with the provider.

Checks on arrival

Follow the setup instructions for the new service. Do not assume the previous hardware is compatible when discussing connection problems with the provider.

What to include in your quote request

Add the quantity, approximate dimensions and preparation status to your inventory. Include the floor, lift and vehicle access at both addresses. Photos help with the initial assessment. Confirm responsibility for packing, dismantling and reassembly in the written quote.
