Choosing what information belongs on a box label

A box label should help the moving team without exposing every private detail. Keep the external label separate from the detailed inventory.

Choosing what information belongs on a box label

Before you start

Give every carton a unique number and destination-room code. Keep detailed contents in a list accessible only to the people who need it.

Practical steps

  • Do not write identification numbers, passwords or unnecessary personal details outside.
  • Agree the transport reference required by the moving team.
  • Place labels where they are readable and match each number to the inventory.

Checks on arrival

Compare delivered codes with your list. Remove unnecessary personal information before passing on or disposing of empty packaging.

What to include in your quote request

Share your current inventory with collection and delivery details. Include large items, packing responsibilities and the intended date alongside carton numbers. Record subsequent changes in the same place and confirm that the final list matches the written quote.
