Recording box weight alongside volume
Two boxes of the same size may have very different weights. Add weight and content type to volume records for more useful transport planning.
Before you start
Measure outer dimensions after packing. Weigh boxes where possible and distinguish estimates from measured information.
Practical steps
- Record each box's number, dimensions and content group.
- Identify heavy or delicate packages beforehand.
- Stay within the box's capacity and discuss splitting overloaded packages with the team.
Checks on arrival
Do not attempt to carry very heavy boxes alone on arrival. Count by box number and photograph packaging damage that may relate to loading pressure.
What to include in your quote request
Share your current inventory with collection and delivery details. Include large items, packing responsibilities and the intended date alongside carton numbers. Record subsequent changes in the same place and confirm that the final list matches the written quote.
